After last night’s “Question of the night”, many of you mentioned the need for a water park of some sorts, especially during the summer heat waves.  After scrolling through the comments a little deeper I realized quite a bit of chatter about a former water park Chico had back in the day.  I became curious I decided to do some research of this long lost treasure.

Opening it’s door in 1984, Chico Fun World, AKA Fun World USA was a quaint amusement park located next the the Silver Dollar Fair Grounds. It was the perfect place to spend the day, and beat the heat during the scorching hot summer days. With a variety of activities including water slides, swimming pools, bumper cars, arcade games and more, Fun World had something for everyone to enjoy.

Sadly all good things must come to an end. Closing it’s doors in 1995 Fun World could no longer keeps it’s doors open due to poor sales, and not having the ability to pay fines and electricity. The Sierra Nevada Brewery bought the then demolished land since its proximity to the brewery. So I guess one could say that some good came out of it; a trade off if you want to put it that way.

Were you around when Fun World USA was open for business? What do you remember about it?
